Since her highly acclaimed New York
Debut Recital at Merkin Concert Hall, pianist
Aysegul Durakoglu has concertized extensively as
soloist and chamber musician throughout the U.S.,
Canada, Russia, Europe, and her native Turkey.
Among her performances include the 1997
International Music Festival where she appeared
with James Galway, the International Contemporary
Music Festival in Philarmonia Hall, Nizhninovgorod
Russia, and the Musical Intersections 2000 in
Toronto, Canada. In the U.S., she has performed at
Merkin Hall, Weill Hall at Carnegie, Lincoln
Center, Festival of Atlantics in New Jersey,
Hancock Auditorium in Los Angeles, Arts Club, World
Bank and Anderson House Concert Series in
Washington D.C., Tsai Performing Arts Center and
Federal Reserve Bank Series in Boston, as well as
radio programs like The Listening Room on WXQR,
Concert Grandsî on WSUV Radio
Stations.
Ms. Durakoglu began her musical life at
the Istanbul Conservatory. As a recipient of a
scholarship from the Turkish Government, she came
to the U.S. to pursue her graduate studies at the
Juilliard School where she earned a Master of Music
degree. She continued her studies at New York
University where she received a Ph.D. with notable
distinction. As a member of the piano faculty and
NYU Chamber Music Society, she was awarded the NYU
Chamber Music Society Special Award. Her teachers
included Gyorgy Sandor, Adele Marcus, and Gregory
Haimovsky.
Aysegul Durakoglu is currently a member
and artistic director of Musica Mundana, a Chamber
Music Society she founded in 1998 and maintains her
own piano studio in Hoboken, New Jersey.

pianist Aysegül Durakoglu

the invitation of the Turkish American Women's
Scholarship Fund, acclaimed pianist Aysegul
Durakoglu performed at University of Chicago's
International House on Sunday, May 4, 2003 to an
audience of more than 100 people. She presented an
enchanting program that included pieces from
composers such as Bach, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy and
Beach. Mrs. Durakoglu also played folk songs from
composer Cemal Resid Rey who is from her homeland,
Turkey. The recital was followed by a reception
where guests had the opportunity to meet with Mrs.
Durakoglu and enjoy delicious Turkish pastries and
desserts. Mrs. Durakoglu lives in the New York
area.
TAWSF is a non-profit associated established a
dozen years ago to raise funds for female students
in Turkey who otherwise would not be able to get a
university education. Each recipient applies to
TAWSF and, if selected, received $100 a month in
scholarship funds.
There are usually 4 students that are supported
each year. "This reception was so successful in
enjoyment and fund-raising that we may be able to
support an extra student," said Dr. Ayhan Lash,
founder of TAWSF. Members, numbering around 20,
hold three or four cultural and social events to
raise the necessary funds.
